Back in Business on Tobacco Road

I started a new job this week as a sales rep here in Dallas. I spent the better part of 4 months trying to get a job and was wholly focused on making this happen. It sometimes seemed like my current life's goal was simply to land a job so I could stop sucking money from savings to pay rent and get back to buying cokes and music from Best Buy. I found myself beginning sentences with, "when I get a job I'll do ..." or "when I get I job I can go to ..." Everything my life was about pointed towards landing a job and now that I have one and have spent a week getting up early, fighting traffic, being bored for 8 hours and fighting traffic again just to get home I remembered that I've never really liked having a job anyways. They take up too much time and sometimes make you feel so beat down by the end of the day that you have no spirit left to live the rest of your life.

Okay, so maybe it wasn't that bad. But it has been an adjustment going back to work full time. When I worked part time during the past 2 months I had to get up much earlier than I do now but for some reason I found myself very tired all week. I made it through week one though and am getting ready for two weeks in Hotlanta, GA for classroom training. If I haven't jumped off a bridge by the time that is over I think I'll be in a better position to enjoy the job and all its perks. Speaking of perks, did I mention I'm now the proud driver of a 2003 Dodge Caravan. I've felt a shade on the neutered side for most of the week but am coming around. I'm big with the early 90's soccer moms but that's about it. It's a company vehicle though which means the only price I'm responsible for is a little dignity.

Well, that's all for now. I have a pretty wild story to tell about something I saw this week but it will wait until next time. Until then ...
