TV

You know, most people seem to always say they should watch less television and try to be more productive. Maybe get a hobby, or start working out. Go to the park, or just out for a walk. I'm here to tell you my friends that that way of thinking is for the birds and should go the way of the good ole buffalo. I've learned to embrace my addiction to television and enjoy the precious moments I have to sprawl out on the couch and be entertained.

As most of you know I'm sort of an MTV junkie. I'm not a big fan of MTV dating shows but Ryan Cabrera has been hosting this new show were two guys write songs for a girl and then she picks the best song. The winner goes on a date with her to a resort in Mexico. So this is essentially a blind date because she can't see or interact with either guy until after she makes her decision. I've been on a few blind dates in my life and taking the risk of a dinner with someone is one thing, but spending an entire week in Mexico is a whole other story. Do they get separate rooms? If not, how akward is it if they don't hit it off? Or how akward is it if they hit it off so much they don't want to spoil it by doing it too early in the relationship? Oh, who am I kidding. This is MTV.

This past week was the season finale of Laguna Beach. This show was really boring at the begining of the season but really picked up by the end. I think it had to do with a larger part for LC in the more recent episodes. Is it weird that I had a very indepth conversation about this show with my 16 year old cousin Leigh Ann and one of her friends the other day? Some call it weird. I call it keeping it real.

What did everyone think of The Real World Austin? I was so excited about the show finally coming to Texas but I'll have to say I have been sorely dissappointed. In fact, I thought this season flat out sucked. Most all Real World cast members regardless of season are for the most part worthless but these kids took it to a new level. They had one of the coolest jobs ever ... to make a documentary about South By Southwest ... and half the time they wouldn't show up to work because it was cutting into their nonstop partying schedule. What is wrong with these people? They were in what I consider to be one of the coolest cities in America and all they did was hang out at the freakin' Dizzy Rooster and get plastered. I was also dissapointed that their job (although really cool) for the most part didn't give anything back to the community. I commend the creators of the Philadelphia season for their efforts to portray young people getting involved in their community. So to sum up this season ... it had two of the hottest girls ever to inhabit a Real World house but all in all was one of the worst seasons I've ever seen.

Other than Julie, is there anyone out their interested in LOST? I'm not going to say much about this show right now because I would have to go on for days. All I'll say is if you don't watch it, you need to start. If you're worried about not having seen previous episodes you can do one of a few things. You can do like me and just jump in. You can fill in the gaps as you go. Or you can buy past episodes for 1 or 2 dollars (can't remember) in iTunes. Or you can buy the complete first season on DVD. Now that I think about it, I think it is $2 on iTunes. In the future they are hoping to offer them through On Demand for $1. Not yet though.

I'm also a fan of West Wing reruns. It's one of the most intelligent shows I've seen and I love the challenge of keeping up with the constant political bantor. It's weird how this season had been building up to finding out who the leak in the White House was. Only a few weeks after Toby admitted to it on the show, almost the exact same story unfolded in real life involving Cheney's Chief of Staff. Weird huh?

As for sitcoms I try to watch Two and a Half Men. That kid kills me. Now that Laguna is over it's time for the next installment of The Gauntlet on MTV. I can't wait to see who gets bitch slapped first.

Finally, my apologies for the lack of recent posts. I was getting the feeling that no one was reading this stuff but now I know my friend Jeremy is a faithful follower so Jeremy, I hope you enjoyed all the meaningless dribble my mouth (or actually fingers since I'm typing). More to come soon.

A New Smoke Free Work Environment

Well folks, I've been making a few changes around here lately. After 6 months of peddling black lung to the masses I've accepted a position with another company. I am now an account executive with IKON Office Solutions in the McKinney, TX area and just finished my second day on the job. It was so refreshing to read the new employee handbook and find a paragraph about how you cannot smoke in company facilities. You can actually see all the way across my new office without having to squint through a cloud of cigarette smoke. So if you can't tell, I'm excited about my new lot in life and am hoping things work out well. At the moment I'm a little on the nervous side as I took a small base salary pay cut. Commission opportunities range from good to lucrative but things could be a little tight around here for a couple of months until I get the hang of things. So if you see me using the credit card at McDonald's you'll know why. Food and drink will gladly be accepted and the favor will hopefully be returned in 4 to 6 months if all goes well.

So I just wanted to pass on the news. Any of you who may have considered my past affiliation to cause some sort of moral inferiority can rest easily tonight. No more menthol cigarettes. No more sales calls in seedy convenient stores. No more store owners telling me God will punish me if I cheat them.(actually that remains to be seen) No more mini van. And no more funny looks when I tell people what I do for a living.

So now you know.
